Best Resume – Guidelines 2014

A resume is a selling tool, which describes your experience and skills so the employer can see, at a glance and decide what/how you can contribute to the organization.

  • Use basic font such as Times New Roman, Courier or Arial
  • Keep point size as 9-12
  • Use the simple design and layout Easy-to-Read; Employers spends only 20 sec in an average reviewing your resume.
  • Note: Do not use table format or template
  • Keep your resume short (one page, if possible, two page at most)
  • Mention detailed contact information so the employers can easily contact you

    2. Home/Cell phone number
    3. Email-Id
    4. Hyper link to Linkedin profile
  • Match the Profile and Objective; your objective should reflect your profile and the job you are applying for. The more specific you are, better the chance of your resume getting short-listed
  • Keywords – Your resume should include the same keywords as it is in the job description to avoid confusion in your expertise and use keywords as Highlights
  • Keep your resume in chronological order; Mention your recent job first and then work back wards
  • Be Specific about your Qualification and/or Training
  • Do not stuff the resume with unnecessary achievements, and skills if it is not required for the job applied. Be specific!
  • The employer may not be familiar with your current company; provide hyper link to current employer website in the experience section
  • Number, statistics, percentages get attention if you highlight in bold
  • Avoid date of birth and reason for leaving the last job
  • Save reference details for the interview
  • Take off your picture. You are looking for a job, not a date!
  • When you are sending your resume, make sure that you follow the instructions provided by the employer’s on how to submit the resume, The employer may want your resume attached to the email message and sent in specific format, typically as a Word document or a PDF
